back to Bach
Estonian composer Arvo Part is becoming this generation's Bach. His music, like this Salve Regina that he wrote in 2001, is ethereal and spiritual.
Salve Regina lyrics and translation:
Hail Queen, mother of mercy;
Salve Regina, mater misericordiae;
our life, our sweetness and our hope, hail.
vita, dulcedo et spes nostra, salve.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.
To thee do we send up our sighs,
Ad te suspiramus,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
gementes et flentes in hac lacrimarum valle.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
Eia ergo, advocata nostra,
thine eyes of mercy toward us.
illos tuos misericordes oculos ad nos converte.
After this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit
Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,
of thy womb, Jesus.
nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
O clemens, o pia, o dulcis Virgo Maria.
