This was the closest-hitting hurricane this season as far as Lafayette was concerned. In the picture below, you can see the trajectories of the 2008 storms.
All in all, we (meaning Wes and I) got through Gustav pretty unblemished, but I am a little worried about the Ike one on its way. It's already a hurricane. And it's pretty far away, meaning it's got a lot of time to build itself up into something powerful before it's over land to slow it down. (It's the one that's a well-formed, small red circle outlined in yellow.)
It was fun having friends and family evacuate to our abode, but I would rather them not have to do without electricity or have to deal with the other inconveniences that come along with the hurricanes. Coincidentally, Charles, who's taken refuge at Chez Raine, is currently in the living room rocking out to "Here I am, rock you like a hurricane" on Guitar Hero. Sunday night we made a huge pitcher of Hurricanes (pretty much fruit punch with any liquor you feel like throwing in) and had people over and played Rock Band on the Wii. We named our band Gustav.
